Documenting current movements to inform more equitable futures.
Joyce Y. T. Mak is a documentary photographer and digital archivist focusing on racial, health and healing justice.
By documenting initiatives that inspire tangible actions to be made on pressing issues affecting communities of marginalised identities, they work closely with fellow community organisers, producers in cultural institutions and writers to reflect experiences beyond one’s marginalisation. They approach photography as a reflexive and relational practice, with the potential to become its own form of care beyond our differences.
They facilitate regular community gatherings in nature, as well as develop peer-led approaches to participatory research and digital archiving.
